2.1 Data provided by you

The use of our services is gener­ally possible without provid­ing personal data. Insofar as personal data (such as name, address or e-mail address) is collec­ted within the scope of our services, this is always done, insofar as possible, on a volun­tary basis. If, for example, you would like to receive a news­let­ter offered by us, we need your e-mail address as well as inform­a­tion that allows us to verify that you are the owner of the specified e-mail address.

2.2 Auto­mat­ic­ally collec­ted data

For purposes of data secur­ity and ongoing usab­il­ity optim­iz­a­tion, we also collect non-personal data in connec­tion with the use of our services. For example, the Inter­net browser used, the oper­at­ing system, the domain name of the website you visited previ­ously, the number of visits as well as the average time spent and the pages you viewed are stored.

This auto­mat­ic­ally collec­ted data is not merged with other data sources. However, we reserve the right to check this data retro­spect­ively if we become aware of specific indic­a­tions of unlaw­ful use.

2.3 Cookies and Web Beacons

Our services use so-called cookies and web beacons on the browser side. Cookies do not cause any damage to your computer, rather they are small files with config­ur­a­tion settings that help us to make our services more user-friendly, effect­ive and secure. Further­more, cookies are used to realize certain user func­tions.

Our services mostly use "session cookies", which are auto­mat­ic­ally deleted when the browser is closed, and in some cases so-called "persist­ent cookies", which remain on your terminal device until they expire or are manu­ally deleted by you. The latter enable us to recog­nize your browser on your next visit. Details on "third party cookies", i.e. cookies from third-party providers such as Google Inc. can be found in their privacy policy.

You can select your browser or the privacy settings of your mobile devices so that you are informed about the setting of cookies and only allow cookies in indi­vidual cases. Like­wise, you can exclude the accept­ance of cookies for certain cases or gener­ally as well as activ­ate the auto­matic dele­tion of cookies when closing the browser. When deac­tiv­at­ing cookies, however, it is possible that not all func­tions of our services can be used to their full extent.

Further­more, we use web beacons, so-called count­ing graph­ics, which enable us to analyze user beha­vior. For example, our news­let­ters and HTML e-mails may contain a web beacon that determ­ines whether the e-mails have been opened or the links they contain have been clicked on. This inform­a­tion helps us improve our email service and better tailor our content to user needs. Web beacons are also deleted when the email is deleted. Of course, our regular text emails do not contain web beacons.

2.4. web analysis

For the ongoing optim­iz­a­tion of the user-friend­li­ness and func­tions of our services, they partly use the third-party web analyt­ics services and social plugins described below. Only non-personal data is used for this purpose.

Google Analyt­ics: Google Analyt­ics of Google Inc., 1600 Amphi­theatre Parkway Moun­tain View, CA 94043, USA uses so-called "cookies", text files that are stored on your computer and enable an analysis of your use of our services. The inform­a­tion collec­ted by the cookie about your user beha­vior is usually trans­mit­ted to a Google server in the USA and stored there. However, in the event that IP anonym­iz­a­tion is activ­ated in the services, your IP address will be trun­cated before­hand by Google within member states of the European Union or in other contract­ing states to the Agree­ment on the European Economic Area. Only in excep­tional cases will the full IP address be trans­mit­ted to a Google server in the USA and shortened there. On behalf of the oper­ator of the services, Google will use this inform­a­tion for the purpose of eval­u­at­ing your use of the services, compil­ing reports on website activ­ity and provid­ing other services relat­ing to website activ­ity and inter­net usage. The IP address trans­mit­ted by your browser as part of Google Analyt­ics will not be merged with other data from Google. Each time you access one of our services that contains func­tions from LinkedIn, a connec­tion to LinkedIn servers is estab­lished. LinkedIn is informed that you have used our services with your IP address. If you click the "Recom­mend Button" of LinkedIn and are logged into your account at LinkedIn, it is possible for LinkedIn to assign your use of our services to you and your user account. We would like to point out that we, as the provider of the services, have no know­ledge of the content of the trans­mit­ted data or its use by LinkedIn. As a matter of prin­ciple, we will process and use the personal data provided by you only for the purposes stated in each case. These include in partic­u­lar:

News­let­ter dispatch: If you register for our news­let­ter via web form, we use the data you provide exclus­ively to verify that you are the owner of the specified e-mail address and agree to receive the news­let­ter, as well as for the dispatch and analysis of news­let­ter usage. In this case, your data will be stored for the dura­tion of the subscrip­tion to the news­let­ter and for 12 months after the end of the subscrip­tion to the news­let­ter, unless longer storage is permit­ted for other reasons. For further purposes, we will only use the personal data provided by you if you have given us your consent to do so.

Order­ing reports or other inform­a­tion mater­i­als: If you request reports or other inform­a­tion mater­i­als from us, the personal data you provide will be used exclus­ively to process your request and will then be stored for 12 months after the last request. Under certain circum­stances, order processing may also be carried out by third parties commis­sioned by us. In this case, your personal data will be passed on for exclus­ive use in the context of the comple­tion of your order. Disclos­ure of data to third parties: We use external service providers (e.g. freight forward­ers) to process various orders and services. These service providers may use or pass on the data collec­ted and processed by us exclus­ively within the scope of the order placed by us and under no circum­stances for other purposes.

Data use within the group of compan­ies: We are part of an inter­na­tion­ally active group of compan­ies with cross-border internal busi­ness processes, struc­tures and tech­nical systems. For the purposes set out in Section 3 and in accord­ance with this Privacy Policy, we may use your personal data within the group of compan­ies and may also trans­fer it to our sites in other coun­tries.
